For my AICE media studies class we were tasked with creating a story using inanimate objects. The goal of this assignment was to teach us how to utilize the camera angles and shots we learned in the previous classes, and discover how they can develop and convey meaning within the allotted frames (15).
For this project, me and my partner had decided to create a story about a hand mirror that had runaway from its owner after being hurt by her. We began the project by brainstorming and creating a story board of the shots and the content in each scene. Once we had our content and execution planned out we began shooting. We ended up tweaking our ideas a bit in the end, but we were happy with the results. During the editing process, we made minor revisions like moving the mirror so it can be seen more clearly in the scene, or editing out a hand in the frame.
I believe that our project was well done and showcased our understanding of how shots and angles can help to develop theme and tone; however, if there was anything I would’ve changed, it would have been the resources available to me. When we were given the quiz, we could only work with items we had brought with us. If had I been able to access an array of items, I’m confident we would’ve have been able to create something much more creative and entertaining. Overall, I don’t think that we had a bad start to media studies.
