Sound Project

To start off this project, we were expected to use our knowledge from lectures in our previous classes to develop a realistic soundscape of anything that we could come up with, without using any visuals.

During our lectures, we had learned about different sound techniques and how they can be used in film to help tell a story, we also learned about foley and how to create our own sounds for media. For this assignment, we were told to create a realistic soundscape using pre-recorded sounds from databases like pixaby as well as sounds created through foley.

Furthermore, in our second sound project we were tasked with adding audio to our OWF projects that would help develop the story. To go about this, me and my partner spent the first day planning our outline for our story and the different sounds that we would need to communicate our vision. Afterwards, we began filming our foley sounds and searching for the audio clips we would need from databases. Once that was done, we imported the clips into Clipchamp and played around with the different audio tools.

Overall, our first sound project wasn’t perfect but it was an amazing start to working with sound and foley. My main struggle was with getting my foley to sound accurate. For example, I needed to create a roof breaking for my project, and while I layered several different sounds of wood breaking, tiles falling, and crashing, it still didn’t sound quite right. I also would’ve appreciated a larger variety of sounds to work with, but despite that I’m still quite happy with the results.
