Titles and credits

 Hello and welcome back everyone!!

Today's challenge was deciding the title, designing it, and figuring out the credits.

So today while trying to do research for my CCR I realized I had a problem. I had absolutely no idea what to call my film. Immediately in a wave of distress I ran over to Mrs. Stoklosa and I told her I had a big problem. I told her I had no idea what to call my film, she then called me a drama queen. Which, fair enough, once a diva always a diva; but she then told me that is not a big issue and sat down with me and helped me to brainstorm ideas.

Eventually, I suggested the idea "Sorry I'm Late." for the title as that's the last line in the film. She said she liked the idea and I got to editing. I started to create the Title card and with the inspiration from my lovely friend Maia I got the idea to make the "O" in "Sorry" into the girls matching necklaces. Genius, fuck why didn't I think of that (It's a reference please look it up I'm not crazy). At fist I tried to find graphics that would work, but it just didn't look good so than Maia and Amelia suggested I just actually used the necklaces. To do this, I took a photo of the necklaces from one of my earlier blogs, put it into canva, used the background remover, and then messed with the coloring.

Anywho, so then I started editing my logo, playing with the fonts and messing around with colors until  I was somewhat satisfied with it.

Afterwards I brought it back to Mrs. Stoklosa to show my amazing work and also get feedback on it. She suggested to mess with the colors and the font and to make it more silver and the wording less childish. And to be completely honest I agreed and I was much happier with the finished product.

Once I had my title card, I then used the same font for each of my credits and attached the appropriate names to the roles.

I will leave all my screenshots and screen recordings of the process down below so you can see how I did this!

Editing

 Hello and welcome back everyone!

Today we're talking about editing. So now that I have a good chunk of my opening filmed I have started piecing it together and making into the final product. I'm still super nervous, but I took a bunch of variations of the same scene so I definitely have stuff to work with.

I did a screen recording of the process last night, which was frankly a pain in the ass. Mainly because the program kept quitting and freezing and it just wasn't being my friend ok. So I started uploading and cutting my clips and I actually ended up tweaking my production logo slightly. It still looks the same, but the effects are a little bit better now.

Anywho, the most annoying part of this process is probably that for whatever reason, my editing didn't save. Atleast I wasn't that deep into editing or It would've been really inconvenient, but still. Very annoying. So now I have to redo everything I did last night. I didn't appreciate that. Fuck you, Adobe express.

Overall, I'm glad to be further along in the project, I just hope from now on that everything goes smoothly.

Production post #3

Hello and welcome back everyone!!!!

So, on Monday I finally got to film, Hooray! Though I will admit, I think I only filmed about half of the scenes. But the good news is that I'm very happy with how they're turning out and all my purchases came in handy during the process. I still have the funeral scene and the "day 2" scene to film, which I'll hopefully be doing on Saturday morning.  But other than that, I'm pretty much wrapping up filming!!

Anywhooo, yesterday Layla came over to my house and we got ready to film together. Then, we drove over to the park near my house with my mom who was there to help us film anddd we saw a bunch of kids playing at the park. More specifically, they were playing on the merry-go-round, Not exactly ideal.

Now what I'm going to tell you next you can't judge me for. I ended up kicking the kids off the merry-go-round to film. I felt really bad, but I was losing daylight and had to get this done today. I'm also making it sound like I threw them off, no I just explained the situation to the moms and they were very kind, though I don't think the kids were too happy about it.

Anyways, we started filming and it was getting dark and cold VERYYY quick. So we were sitting there in the freezing cold in tank tops and shorts trying to act like it was summer. I also forgot to mention that we were doing costume changes in my car, so this whole production was not as glamorous as it looked.

Overall though, while I definitely embarrassed the fuck out of myself during this filming process I had so much fun acting in and making the film opening. I also feel extremely proud of myself because I'm like, holy shit I did that. I'm still a little nervous about how the finished product is going to look, but I definitely think I'm on the right track.

Group Meeting #2

 Hellloooo and welcome back!!!

Today we met in groups again and discussed our production processes and ideas for our CCR's.

From left to right: Carolina, Juan, Sebastian, JP, Me, and Andrea

My group consisted of Carolina, Andrea, JP, Juan, and Sebastian.

Everyone in my group had some really great ideas and they have all pretty much finished filming.

I'm so nervous because I definitely think I'm behind now, but it's ok because I'm gonna try and film today.

Any who, Carolina's film idea is to have a girl in a holding cell and have flashbacks of a bloody murder mystery. For her CCR, she isn't sure what she wants to do and a couple of our groups members suggested ideas of police investigations to match her theme.

Juan's idea was great too! he and his group had the idea to do a sci-fi type film of an 18-year-old mad scientist who creates these glasses that can allow you to see into the future. When she's testing out her creation she sees her own death and begins to spiral. For his CCR I suggested a bill nye type of Q&A! I also recommended him some easy experiments to do from STEMsters YouTube channel to do in the video.

Sebastian’s film is also a thriller and is about a bloody teen in a car with sirens in the background, accompanied by a flashback to a mysterious threatening phone call and a letter. He also didn’t have any ideas so Andrea suggested that he incorporate the mailbox from his film and use it to answer questions. I suggested he do the same with a phone call!

JP’s film is also a thriller (I’m noticing a theme) and kinda reminds me of adolescence. His film follows a boy who gets bullied and than murders his bully. We suggested he did a kind of science fair project sort of thing with his CCR. He’d present the questions on a board and present his answers.

Andrea’s idea was super cool and interesting her’s is a dystopian film that she actually recorded at a museum! It starts with a flash forward into the world being abandoned and her looking for food and then brings it back to her “normal life” of overworking parents, police brutality, and turning a blind eye. For her CCR I suggested she has her family asks questions!

Everyone had some really great ideas and I can’t wait to see how things turn out!!

Production part 2!!

 Hello and welcome back!!!

So, today did not go as planned.

At around 5 Maia and Layla (Viv) where supposed to come around to help me set up and film.

I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty nervous the night before and stayed up until 2AM messing with my camera and the attachments to make sure everything would run smoothly.

I also had a mini heart attack when I was opening the box for the microphone and couldn’t find the mic. Low and behold the mic was in the fluffy wind filter attachment, not my smartest moment. I also unfortunately broke one of the mic holsters, which I was very sad about, but it’s ok because they gave us two and I learnt my lesson. I’m still very upset though.

The clothes Maia lended me: Jorts, Capris, Skirt, Striped Button up, Green baby doll top, and green and blue plaid babydoll top

The night before I also got worried that Layla wouldn’t have the right clothes, so I asked my boyfriend’s sister (Maia Q) if I could borrow some of her wardrobe for filming and she said yes! So, I went over at 3pm and borrowed Maia’s clothes for filming.

Anywho, I gathered my costumes together earlier today, planned out hairstyles, and makeup looks for each “day change” and packed everything in a bag to take with me to the park.

This is where everything started to go wrong, Layla than told me than she couldn’t film today. Which, OK no biggie I will just ask Maia A. to help me today, luckily she was available and willing to do it. I then asked Maia Q. If she’d helping filming and she said yes.

Then, as I was leaving to pick up Maia A. I saw a huge grey cloud in the distance. It. Was. Going. To. Rain. Fuck my life. But, me being me I persevered.

I got Maia A&Q to the park and we managed to film some of the opening but not nearly as much as I was hoping for, so I was very disappointed and sad. And now I’m really nervous I’m going to be behind. But, anyways we’re going to try again next Saturday because we got rained out. And before you say, “well you should’ve checked the weather”. I did. It was 20% chance of rain I thought id be completely fine, but I was very wrong. I also vlogged this experience so I hope you enjoy.

P.S. I got Menchies after this to try and make myself feel a little better but I’m still pretty upset.

Production!!!!

 Hello and welcome back!!

Today we started filming!! YAYYY

Although I’m still waiting for my fancy schmancy equipment to come in, which will be here tomorrow. I was able to film the car scene where the car comes flying at Blair (the camera).

So, at 9 I went with my mom to the playground near my house and set up my camera. Originally, I was hoping to film in the actual street, but for obvious reasons I wasn’t able to do that. So, the next best thing was the parking lot at the playground. It looks very eerie at night so I think it really captures that fear factor, I just hope it doesn’t look out of place or anything when I put it all together.

Today also made me realize that I will ABSOLUTELY need to invest in lights because holy shit it was so dark. Even with the high beams on the car and all the settings tweaked, you still couldn’t see anything. You could kind of make out more details of the car once I changed to a better lens, but still, definitely updating my equipment blog and adding lights. I ordered those and they should also come tomorrow. And if everything goes according to plan, which hopefully it does, then I’ll be filming the rest on Sunday, so stay tuned.

Also, I’d like to mention that in the photos I’m gonna show you guys my battery on the camera died so we had limited attempts to how many shots we were able to take. I’ll try to import some so you can see, but it’s possible that the scene doesn’t get used if it looks better with the lights or if I find a way to film in the street for 2 seconds and than run off.

One more thing I want to mention is I got a lot of weird stares, especially from this guy passing by on a bike. To be fair though he was quite nice and asked about what I was filming. This kind of made me realize how cool this project is because like I wrote it and I’m filming, and producing, and editing it. Right now it doesn’t feel very cool, but it sounds pretty cool.

Camera Equipment

 Hello and welcome back!

Today's lesson is camera equipment, and originally when I started researching for this I saw a BUNCH of fancy cameras being listed. And I'll be honest, that scared me a little and I started searching everywhere for a camera rental shop near me; then I looked at the prices and decided my camera is more than satisfactory (hopefully).

Though now I am a little bit too aware of the stakes i'm up against, so I hopped on amazon and found a few attachments that I'm hoping to buy. I wanted to get a microphone attachment because I'm very nervous about my camera's audio, and a stabilizer because i'm going to be filming overhead and I don't want it to be shaky. I'm still not entirely sure on the logistics of how it will work but I will figure it out.

I'm also going to be using a tripod that I already have from AMBICO and my Canon EOS Rebel T6I. I'm going to be honest with you, before now I had no idea how to really use this camera but after watching some youtube channels I now know how to use it to capture the shots I want.

The videos below were very helpful when it comes to learning about the equipment. The taught me about IOS, aperture, shutter speed, resolution/ frame rate, exposure, etc. These videos also confirmed that I will probably want to invest in a mic since the audio on this camera is not the best because it doesn't have an external microphone.

Anywho, I also learned about white balance and how I can customize it to fit the shot so now I can capture different tones by using color theory. Ex: when Viv comes back to the playground I could manipulate the scene to be more blue to convey a sad or depressed tone.

I hope you guys enjoyed this lesson today because I did, I actually had a lot of fun messing around with the settings, and now I feel a little bit more confident about filming.

P.S I later realized that I would need to get some lights because of how dark its is, so I did and I will put the link down below.

My logo!!!!

Hello, and welcome back!!

So as someone who has never made a production logo before, I am very proud of myself. Though I did have to ask my friend Amelia how to animate, I got the hang of it and I'm super proud of the product. I found a template in Canva and modified it to make it my own. Then I added my production name, audio, and visual effects to bring it to life!

I'm gonna be honest though this process was a pain in the ass. I had to tweak the animations and adjust the stuff so much and it was just NOT cooperating, no matter what I did. But it's ok because now it looks beautiful and everything is fine. Also I completely forgot to put this into video format originally, but luckily Canva has the best features so I didn't have to redo anything. Thank god.

Now I'm sure you're inspired to make your own logo, so let me walk you through it.

Step 1: Find a template, or start from scratch (Goodluck).

Step 2: Start customizing it to fit your needs.

Step 3: Add cool visuals to make it your own.

Step 4: Add/fix animations to make it ineractive.

Step 5: Find sound effects to make it engaging and fun.

Step 6: Import sounds into canva

Step7: Edit sound effects and adjust as needed

Step 8: Voila!

P.S. I hope you guys appreciate this post because formatting this post was a nightmare and I hope I never have to do it again.

More costume!

 Hello and welcome back everybody!

Last time, I told you guys about the set and a little bit about my costumes and props. But today, I wanted to go more in detail.

I’ll put some outfit inspo for the two girls since we’re going to see them change a couple of times to represent the changing of the days and times.

My film doesn’t have many significant props besides a phone, the car that hits Blair, and their matching sun and moon necklaces. I told you guys that I bought these last time, and they arrived yesterday so I’m super excited about that!

Anywho, the necklace is a super important detail because throughout the days, no matter how much they change, or how different they may be, they are a part of eachother. The necklaces represent their friendship and togetherness, and brings out a much deeper meaning in the film when Viv quite literally loses her other half.  I’m going to establish this significance by including the necklaces in all the outfits they wear. This is the best way for me to show that the necklace is significant to the characters and have some sort of meaning. One could also argue that the necklaces appeal to the semantic codes theory and represents the girls themselves. Considering that Blair is very quiet and serious like the moon, while Viv is bright and fiery.

Regarding the phone, I was just going to use my phone case since it’s very pretty and pink but than I remembered that my phone case was falling apart and in shambles. Then I remembered that my friend Maia was bedazzling a phone case for her film. I asked her if I could borrow it and she said yes!!! The phone itself doesn’t carry that much significance besides being the downfall of the story and the beginning of the end. But, I did still want it to help build character so the borrowed case would be perfect! Thank you very much Maia!!

Maia's bedazzled phone case that she's letting me borrow

The last thing I wanted to talk about is the car. You may be wondering, Mia where the fuck are you getting a car? Well lucky for all of us I have this beautiful black 2015 SUV Jaguar that was so kindly passed down to me. Her name is Jaggie and she’ll be Blair’s killer. I’ve already discussed her significance to the story in one of my other blogs, so I won’t bore you with it again. But, to put it simply, the car represents life, how quickly things can change, and the death of innocence. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of her at this moment but i'm working on it.

Okay, now that I’m done yapping here’s my costume ideas!

Viv's funeral costume

Blair's outfit ideas
Viv's outfit ideas
Like I said before, I wanted the costumes to develop character and express the characters well. So as we can see, Blair is very put together, she wears serious colors and pays attention to detail. While Viv wears fun colors and clothes and doesn't really seem to have a specific style or aesthetic besides, fun. But it's important that we take notice that the necklaces are in each outfit, even when she goes to the funeral.

I want to clarify that these are very much ideas and will probably not be exact as me and my friend who is playing Viv will be pulling from our closets and borrowing clothes from others. The concepts however will stay the same.

Audio (god help me)

 Hello and welcome back, again.

Today's daily struggle, is audio (SOS).

I'll do my best to break this down for you guys but we're figuring this out together.

Sound scape:

[Scene 1: Opening scene: Vivian storms in]

  • crickets chirping
  • music playing (upbeat)
  • footsteps in mulch
  • nature sounds
  • sounds of kids playing
  • creak of merry go round
[Scene 2: Viv leaves]
  • progressively lower sounds and increase cricket sounds + transition to sad/tense music
  • Sounds of cars and horns blaring
  • screech and crash sound
  • ambulance sounds
[Scene 3: Viv returns to the playground]
  • sad music + feet crunching mulch
  • creak of merry go round
  • sniffling
  • ghost sounds
I know what you guys are thinking, where are you getting the music from? Well I'd like to introduce you to my older brother, Alec. A  self taught semi-mediocre piano and ukulele player.

Let me set the scene for you, I was sitting in my room last night messaging indie artists on TikTok trying to get permission to use their music. When all of a sudden my brother comes home and starts playing the strangest remix of Dexter's theme song, Beethoven, and the Interstellar song. My problem was solved. I asked him if I could record him playing and we ended up staying up till 1AM composing music. So I pressed record in my voice memos app and it turned out pretty good, I'm probably going to also use royalty free music websites as well to find the perfect fit. But, I'm in a pretty good spot I think. I'll try to add some of the recordings in today so you guys can listen.

This song i'm thinking of using if the opening scenes when they're talking at the playground so It can help set the scene and the tone of the situation. (Looking Out for You- Joy Again)

Then when Viv returns back to the playground alone I think I want to play this song so that we understand how she is feeling in that moment and have a sort of physical representation of the change she is going through.

Music is such an important and integral part of media and film particularly, so I'm really glad that I get to work with my brother so I can customize it and find the perfect track that represents their inner thoughts and feelings. I'm really excited to see my idea come to life and I think that the music will really add to the story and give you an indicator on where it will go.

Set & Costumes

 Hello and welcome back everyone!

Today we're going to be discussing the set and costume design within my film.

Regarding location I already have a place in mind, there's a park near my house that started this whole idea, so that's where i'll be filming. I still need to work out the kinks with kids possibly being there while i'm filming so i'm planning on doing it later in the day or during weekdays when they're not as likely to be there. But not too much I can do because it is a playground afterall.

This is the location I have in mind:

These are some more pictures and videos I took of the park at night  I hope you appreciate this cause I was so scared someone was gonna kidnap me and this place is creepy as fuck at night.

I will probably bring some lights with me while filming to set the scene but for the most part i'll be using the natural lighting so that the film feels realistic and depicts a natural representation of life. Also because I'm not entirely sure where to get lights, I'll probably end up using my phone's flashlight but it is what it is.

As for the costumes, I want Vivienne and Blair to be portrayed as opposites, and not only through personality and maturity levels, but also through aesthetics.

As of right now, I'm planning on using my friend, Layla to play Viv. Though their styles are completely different I think she'd do an amazing job at embodying her carefree and funny attitude. This also means that the costumes might be more inspired by the moodboard rather than being a true copy of it, which honestly might play out better in the end.

The one and only amazing Layla

My main thing about the costume design is that Viv has that bright and eccentric style to her, so no matter what sub-style (grunge, preppy, etc.) it takes on I think it will work out.

However, Blair's costuming will stay pretty true to itself as I think her costume reflects her pretty perfectly.

Drumroll please for who will be playing Blair.....

Yup, you guessed it it's Me!!

One thing that i'm definitely incorporating is the sun and moon friendship necklaces shown in the mood boards. These represent that their eachother's half even though they are so different. I ordered these on amazon so hopefully they come in time.

Anywho, I don't really have much to say about the set design because there's not much for me to change and I just need to talk with Layla to figure out what costumes we want to wear because there's going to be several wardrobe changes.

Media Theory

Hello and welcome back everyone!

Today we are talking about, drumroll please....Media Theory!

Not as exciting as you hoped? Oh well, you get what you get and you don't get upset.

The media theory that i'm incorporating in my film is Roland Barthes Narrative codes. Or more specifically, his proairetic or action code. this theory says that "plot points that lead to other actions and make audience wonder what could come next.". This theory is applicable to my opening because it ends with "A" hearing her dead best friend's voice again. This makes viewers question how this is happening, what's going on, and most importantly what will happen next. This theory also adheres to the film based off of the irony in their conversations. "A" is complaining and "B" shuts her down by saying that It's not going to kill her. "A" than replies with "I wouldn't be caught dead in that...". This plot point is significant as it becomes strikingly real when "B" gets hit by a car not too soon after.

Some other theories in my opening that I would like to discuss is symbolic and semantic codes.

Symbolic codes- signs or symbols within a production that represent opposition or antithesis.

This is incorporated in my film through the use of composition. In the beginning "A" walks in front of the camera and than lays down across from "B". This action suggests that their characters are very different from each other, and we see this in the way they interact with each other as well. We can see that "B" is far more level headed and acts as a sort of anchor and advisor to "A". While "A" is somewhat short tempered and immature. This is strikingly obvious as we notice that throughout their conversations "B" hardly ever curses. Mostly because, she doesn't need to to get her point across. While "A" just throws words around however she likes.

Another way that symbolic codes presents itself is with the juxtaposition from the beginning of the film to the end. "A" still walks in front of the camera at the end but this time she goes to sit by herself, mourning her dead friend. The opposition in these scenes shows you how much her life has already changed, and the shift from how little her problems used to be to the gravity of the situation now.

Semantic codes- signs within a production that represent more than just the literal object.

Semantic codes can apply to my project in many forms. One that i'd like to point out would be the car. The car represents the death of innocence and how quickly life can come crashing down on you. I also want to emphasize that "B" is the last remaining part of "A"'s childhood. We can see this as she tries to express herself as being more mature through her dialect. This is important to remember because now "B"'s death means more than just the loss of a friend, but "A" losing a part of herself as well. The playground also works to show their immaturity and deep connection to their childhood as they repeatedly return to the same spot in search of comfort from when times were much easier and their biggest problems were the uniforms they'd have to wear.

I'll leave my media theory sheet down below, let me know if you see any that you think I missed!

Storyboard & Script!!

Hello and welcome back we’re now in the midst of this project and I actually have to start thinking about all the details.

Honestly, I had no idea how to start off my story so I got the help of my classmate Maia with the storyboarding process.

Plus my big ass white board that y’all will see later. I looked insane sitting with this humongous thing on my teeny tiny lil desk but it gets the job done.

Anywho, I feel as if my storyboard is fairly self explanatory (the paper edition not the whiteboard) thanks to the comments I added but I’ll be explaining it a little bit further.

To start things off, I wanted to include an establishing shot of the scenery (in this case the playground) to set the tone and give people and idea of where things are taking place.

Afterwards, I wanted Character "A" to storm in and walk in front of the camera. This way I could set the scene for a transition into the overhead shot of Character A&B laying on the merry go round and talking.

I then wanted to show a variation of days with the same continuing dialogue to establish that these girls come here often and are close friends. At the end of this scene, "A" has to go home and leaves "B" at the playground. This is where everything starts to go downhill.

Script:

[Camera opens to a playground]

*Upbeat music plays*

"A" storms into the frame, walking in front of the camera

Scene transitions to an overhead view of "B" laying on the merry go round and "A" laying down across from her.

A: This is such bullshit!

B: Relax Viv, summer's not over yet, we still have time.

[Cut to another day with A&B wearing different clothes]

A: Ok but Blair, they're giving us uniforms, and not like cute Serena and Blair prep school, high knee socks uniforms.  Like fugly khaki uniforms.

B: Yea but like- Mm no I can't justify it they're really bad.

[Cut to another day with A&B wearing different clothes]

A: I'm genuinely convinced someone is praying on our downfall.

B: You're over exaggerating

A: No i'm serious someone has a picture of our faces taped to their dart board because this is horrendous.

B: Bad uniforms aren't going to kill us.

A: Might as well. I wouldn't be caught dead in that, are you kidding?

[Phone pings]

"A" sits up to check her phone.

A: Shit I gotta go

She turns to look back at B

A: Are you okay getting home?

"B" nods.

B: Yea go

A: Ok, same time tomorrow right?

B: Don't be late

"A" leaves

[End scene]

In the following clips, we now see "B" leave. But as she goes, she walks out into the street and gets hit by a car. We see this exchange happen with a series of close-ups as it switches between "B" and the car to create chaos.

The title card would then come in showing the name of the film (This is still a work in progress).

The scene than continues with "A" coming back to the park while dressed in all black and walking in front of the camera. Just like how "B" did in the beginning. She makes her way over to the merry-go-round where we see a close-up of her visibly upset before she hears "B"'s voice.

Script:

*Sad music plays*

"B" leaves

As she steps out into the street the sounds of a car honking gets louder, and its lights get brighter.

[Close-up of car coming towards the camera]

[Close-up of "B" as the headlights gets closer to her]

{Title Card}

[Scene opens to playground again]

"A" walks in front of the camera wearing all black.

She sits down on the merry-go-round visibly upset.

Her eyes are red and teary.

B: Sorry i'm late, I got caught up in traffic.

She then hears "B"'s voice and is surprise and confused

[End Scene]

The script and the name are still very open to changes but the concepts will remain the same. I really wanted to create a story in which the main character is forced to grow on their own and learn to evolve to be their own person.

Personally, I like to believe that "B" never came back and this is just "A"'s way of comforting herself and coping with the loss of her friend, but then again, anything is possible in movies.

Group Meeting #1 :)

 Hello and welcome back!

I'll be completely honest with you I have been putting this off because I just don't wanna write.

Anyways, let's get this over with.

last class was very helpful we had our first group meeting. Basically, we met with our classmates, discussed ideas, issues, and concerns regarding our projects.

My group was made up of my classmates: Maia, Luke, Isa, Vanessa, Giovanna, and Emma (and Me! duh)

From left to right (clockwise): Isa, Me, Maia, Vanessa, Emma, Giovanna, Luke

I'll leave the links to their blogs here so you can go check out their stuff:

Everyone had some really great ideas for their film openings. I think Maia's was my favorite though. Not that the others didn't have great ideas but hers seemed very fun and lively. Her idea is about a girl who starts a blog as a way of proving to people that she can amount to things in life. We all went around giving suggestions on how to improve her idea. I suggested she make her credit scenes a typing sequence with immersive sound and visuals.

I went second in my group and everyone had some really helpful advice. In my film I wanted to have an overhead shot of the girls laying down on the merry-go-round but I didn't know how best to capture it. Maia suggested I used a ladder and someone films overhead with a tripod/selfie-stick . This could work but I'm still thinking about other alternatives.

Another issue I hadn't thought about yet is my title cards and credit sequences. Maia suggested this really cool idea that I think I'm going to use. She said that I could insert the film name (Title) right after the best friend gets hit by the car. The screen can cut to black show the title and than transition to the funeral, GENIUS!

Emma also suggested another idea that I could start off with the best friend already being a ghost. I've played with this idea a bit but I'm not too sure how I'd execute it.

Luke and a couple others said that they liked the idea but were worried it might be too much to squeeze into 2 minutes. I'm pretty nervous about this too but I think it's doable (hopefully). If its not I'm pretty shit out of luck so do me a favor and cross your fingers for me!

Overall, this meeting really helped me to realize what I needed to adjust and helped me to look at my project from another point of view so if anyone from my group is reading this, Thanks guys!

Some honorable mentions:

Isa's film idea: Appears as horror but turns out to be a fun teenage story between two polar opposite friends

Giovanna's film idea: She either wants to do suspense, or CoA. She's leaning more towards suspense though and knows she wants to do something mysterious in a lab. We suggested she use the forensics or biomed classrooms.

Emma's film idea: Mystery/Suspense story about a girl stuck in a prison or a cage.

Vanessa's film idea: She wanted to do a Thriller/Suspense about a kid that was bullied who than goes on to kill his bully. (think Adolescense)

P.S., I'm only now realizing I can be less formal with my blogs. Also don't forget to check out my groups blogs!

Project idea and major inspiration

 Hellooooo and welcome back!!

Now that you’ve read all of my boring blogs about CoA films and why makes them a part of the CoA genre (go check them out if you haven’t already). I’m now gonna be telling you guys about my top secret never seen before ideas (I’ve been telling everybody about it for the past 2 weeks).

So to give you a sort of baseline to understanding my idea a great reference is the TV show Boo Bitch. I believe it’s on Netflix, but basically the show is about two best friends that get into an accident with a moose. The moose crushes one of the girls, killing them, well one of them. (SPOILER WARNING!!) But the kicker is that Erika’s best friend, Gia lies and tells Erika that she’s the ghost so that she seizes her highschool opportunities and lives her life to the fullest without any fears.

The show is very much CoA and shows how Erika grows from a timid girl, to a bit of a b*tch, to a mature young woman. This show was very entertaining in my opinion and wasn’t too bad in terms of unrealistic teen representations (A.K.A bad teenage dialogue). Ok it was pretty cringey at some points but the plot was good. And the plot twist shocked me and was a really good spin on the story.

Anywho, this is kind of where I drew my inspiration from as my idea is pretty similar. Drumroll pleaseee!!!

My idea for the two minute film opening is to have two girls going into or in their sophomore year of highschool. For now we'll call them Gal and Mal as their real names are TBD. Gal and Mal are bestfriends and always meet at this park with a merry go round. They always talk and give each other advice and really rely on each other when it comes to their social life and teenage problems.

One night after they're done talking, Gal's phone rings and it's her mom calling her away. She asks if Mal will be ok getting home by herself and Mal says yes. The two girls split up to go home and as she's leaving Mal gets hit by a car (morbid I know but just bear with me). The scene than cuts to Mal's funeral and Gal is extremely sad since she just lost her best friend. To cope with the fact her friend is gone Gal goes back to the park and sits by their spot (A.K.A the merry go round). She sits there for a bit with her head in her hands as she starts to cry. Gal than hears a voice "Stop crying i'm here", or something along those lines. Its Mal's voice.

Basically to sum this up in short if you still don't get what i'm saying two bffs hangout, one dies in an accident, the surviving one is sad until she realizes her dead bff has come back to life as a ghost.

Originally, I wanted to add some dialogue or something to suggest that Mal has unfinished business to help Gal through highschool before she disappears. But unfortunately it's only two minutes and this is just the opening so this is all we're getting (sorry people :( ).
